Red Chilli Sichuan Restaurant Glebe

Red Chili Sichuan Restaurant (Glebe)

We recently were able to take our friends to try the famous Sichuan Hotpot at Glebe

The communal dish is a  red broth is infused with Sichuan peppers, dried chili, ginger and garlic. We also opted for a a less spicy chicken broth for half of the pot.  The fillets of fish, tofu, vegetables and silky noodles are blanched in the boiling stock and dipped in a garlic sesame oil.

Its a surprising mix of spices from Northern China and it's a bit of a work out- make sure you have a jug of water on the table!

Well Connected Cafe

There are usually certain dates set aside for different festive traditions.

25th of December means family, feasting and fun.

31st of December means dance, drinks and dumb.

For me the 3rd of January was in harmony with the Well Connected Cage in Glebe.

The air was buzzing with casual funk.  Walls are painted red, a variety of chairs with
mismatched pillows and fresh coffee.  A Menu that  uses only free ranged eggs, also providing vegan meals and home made muesli with rhubarb. Upstairs you can find  self serve water and a small group at the lounges are surfing the free wifi with coffee.

As you look around people almost nod in unison – “this is a chillax session… no sudden movements… no rush…”. My favourite item on the menu is the “Big Fat Latte”, i glanced lazily unto a small clock placed amongst vintage posters- i understood the sensible choice of words.  Slouch into your retro chair and get ready for a lengthy cafe styled lunch with friends.

Conversations dances across the table about life, love and dreams. The 2 hours seemed to have drifted away. Stack of Pancakes, Eggs Benedict with Bacon and a Lamb Burger with minted yoghurt later – i thought it was time to squeeze in some drinks with a slice of sweetness. A little pot of Chai Tea and Peppermint Tea was married with a slice of baked berry cheesecake.

The food is affordable and who can complain about all day breakfast or a Big Fat Hot Chocolate?

The winner would have to be the ambiance.

What better way to ease into the year with a cafe that encompasses a home to read and a place to chill with mates?
