The Office Crime

I have a fellow colleague.

She is very dear to me and i must say work is so much more bearable when we sit near each other.
At work i would like to think i am focused and enjoy meeting objectives but when we get together it is really like a house on fire. Its a blast but there is a lot of trouble that comes along the way.

There’s lots of laughter, waving of hands and flicking of hair. However, there is one thing that binds us together closer then anything else and that is lunch.

Lunch time is a wonderful part of the working day, a precious 45 min that belongs to only recipient and they get to choose what they would like to eat and where they have it. As a typical lazy office worker i eat in front of my desk and surf the Internet. I try to eat salads and sandwiches but now and again my resistance to temptation is non-existent and i give in to Thai.

The mention of my colleague comes because i believe her lunches solely support this shop Spice Thai! She has the same dish everyday and she is always making sure all other work mates have the opportunity to enjoy the hot meal with her. Its very cute how the conversation flows ” hmmms, what should i eat?” and how it always ends it “I’m going to have the Chili Jam Chicken With Rice Noodles”.

There are times when i’ve peeked at her saucy meal and my mouth waters seeing the noodles wrap around her fork and the very hot steam come out of the plastic container. The sweetness and hint of chili makes the thin slices of chicken so enjoyable and not to mention the hint of smokey taste after you swallow the noodles.

Just the other day i gave into temptation and Chili Jam Chicken with Rice was my order ( i convinced myself rice was the healthier alternative). Not only was it enjoyable i also intentionally saved a little less then half of it to enjoy the next day. It seems that I’m not the only secret fan of the Chili Jam Chicken because to my horror my lunch was nicked. I suppose it was fate and having the sacred dish 2 days in the row is too gluttonous!

I can’t help but look around and shudder ” someone out there is in a corner eating my food with their fingers and chuckling to them self”. Lesson to be learnt – don't try and do portion control with Thai food, it only increases office crime.

Ciao F. Truffles
